Institutul Geologic al României

Institutul Geologic al României was founded in 1906 by a decree signed on 19 June 1906 by King Carol I of Romania in order to fulfill the tasks of a national geological service. Since its establishment in 1906 the institute’s director is Ludovic Mrazek.

The main activity of the Institutul Geologic al României is conducting basic and applied research, technological development, studies and forecasts of public and national interests relating to deciphering the composition and geological evolution of Rumania: the highlight and delimitation of useful minerals; development of methodologies, processes and technologies geological and geophysical, geochemical including mapping to identify areas of useful minerals; fundamental and basic research in the fields of mineralogy, paleontology, stratigraphy, geochemistry, regional geology, hydrogeology, magnetometriei, gravimetrically, geoelectricităţii, seismic; editing and printing of publications and specialized studies; researching and analyzing the distribution of geomagnetic fields, gravitational, electromagnetic geothermal and Romania.
